Transcript for "The new way to create: Canva AI 2.0 (AMER)":
Hello. Hello, everyone. It's so great to see so many of you joining from all around the world. A very warm welcome, and thank you for taking the time today to be with us. Today's webinar is all about the new way to create with Canva AI two point o and what that means for you as a small or growing business. We're really excited to walk you through our latest Canva Create launches and show how you can create, scale, and move faster with AI. So on April 16, we announced our biggest launch ever and what we believe is one of the most important moments in Canvas journey so far. Today, we're going to bring that to life and show how these innovations can help you create faster, scale your content, and grow your business with less complexity. Now before we dive in, I'm joined by some of our product marketing leads who bring these launches to life today. We have Greg, Tim, Justin, and Claire who've been closely involved in shaping these experiences and how we bring them to market. And they'll be walking you through demos and real use cases throughout the session. So here's what we'll cover today. We'll start with a quick look at the common challenges SMBs are facing today and why this matters. Then we'll introduce Canvas next era and how we're evolving as a company. And from there, we'll walk through some of the key launches, bring them to life with live demos, and wrap up with what this means for you as growing businesses. Now let's start with the foundation and why this matters in the first place. At its core, design is actually something very simple. It's about taking an idea and giving it a form, turning something in your head into something real, and that's something we believe everyone should have access to. And that belief is what led us over a decade ago to our company mission, to empower the world to design. But before Canva, design was complex, and it was super fragmented. Creating anything meant stitching together multiple tools and workflows. Even something simple meant jumping between platforms, learning new tools, and managing multiple subscriptions. It was super slow, expensive, and really hard to scale, especially for SMBs. And those same challenges still exist today, just in new ways. We hear three things consistently from our SMB customers. First, content demand is growing faster than what SMBs can keep up. Second, brand consistency breaks as your team grows and scale. And thirdly, tools that are becoming increasingly disconnected and costly. And now AI is adding another layer to this challenge. There's a growing gap between what AI can do and how SMB teams are actually able to use it day to day. For example, 35% of consumers say AI content lacks customization, and nearly two thirds feel overwhelmed by the number of AI tools available today. And at the same time, 94 of SMB organizations expect their AI budgets to grow. So while adoption is accelerating, SMBs are still struggling to turn that into high quality differentiated output, and the challenge isn't access to AI anymore. It's how to use it in a way that's simple, effective, and on brand at scale. So we approach this the same way we did with design by bringing everything into one platform. Super simple, connected, and accessible, where you can create anything from business presentations to social ad posts to company websites all in one place. And that brings us to the next era of Canva. Our AI products have already been used more than 27,000,000,000 times, and what's exciting is we've only scratched the surface. At CounterCreate this year, we introduced the biggest evolution of Canva we've ever shipped. We're moving from a design platform with AI tools to an AI platform with design tools, meaning AI isn't something you bolt on at the end. It's part of the entire process from an idea to an execution. And thanks to huge advancements in our Canva design model, we're so, so, so excited to introduce Canva AI two point o. Hey, Canva. For our next strategy plan, I'm thinking a new strategy plan? I feel like I want something to add to that. That's the rough idea. Nice. Could you show me some market insights and build a timeline? Let me add a few things. How many of these recordings do you have, Gerald? And with Canva AI two point o, everything comes together in one place. Design, writing, research, automation, and workflows, all connected into a single seamless experience. And what this unlocks for SMBs is super powerful. You can build a launch ready brand in one flow like creating your business logo, menu, and social post in minutes. And you can go from an idea to a full campaign like turning a promotion into an on brand content across channels or even creating interactive experiences, like a landing page for an event or an internal portal without needing any coding. And things like that used to take days, and now it takes minutes. So now let's see how this all comes to life. And I'm gonna hand it over to Greg who'll walk you through some of the key AI launches and how they come together to power this new way of creating for your business. And just to note that many of these launches that we're talking about today are rolling out very soon. So this is just a first look at what's coming. Alright. Over to you, Greg. Thanks, CJ. So we've talked about the shift to Canva AI two point o and what that unlocks for your growing business. But what I'm excited to show you about now is how it all comes to life. At the core of everything is a powerful new architecture layer that really reimagines the entire design process. And on top of that, we're introducing a set of intelligent workflows that help take your work from start to finish. So this goes far beyond just generating designs. It's about making Canva the system at the center of all your work, whether that's planning, creating, or launching. So let let me give you a quick tour of what's new just at a high level, and then we'll bring a few of these launches to life with some of the amazing PMMs on the call and so you can see how they will work in practice for SMBs. First up, and this is really where it all starts, and that is conversational design. Instead of starting with a blank page, you can now just describe what you want, and Canva AI will build build it for you. So imagine you are launching a new product. You could ask for a full campaign all the way from a marketing plan to social media post, and you'll get a strong first draft almost immediately. And from there, you can refine it, you can tweak it, tweak it, and you can change direction, and Canva AI keeps up with you the whole way. Building on that, Canva AI doesn't just generate. It can also take action for you inside your designs. So say you are creating a campaign for a summer running shoe sale. In seconds, it can generate an Instagram post, a story, or even a YouTube thumbnail. But it doesn't just stop there. It can keep refining by adjusting the images, rewriting copy, updating updating layouts even while you're in the middle of manually editing. So instead of having to restart or switch tools, it's like having someone beside you that builds and improves with you as you go. Speaking of improvement, Canva AI now learns from your designs and your documents and adapts to your style over time. When you generate a profile from your existing work, Canva AI builds a living memory of your favorite colors, your fonts, tone, and the kind of designs you like to make. From there, every subsequent Canva AI generation will become more tailored to how you and your business actually looks and feels without you having to explain it each time. That's gonna be a massive time save. This one here is really important. It solves a massive frustration with AI today. A lot of AI tools generate something that's flat or hard to change, But with Canva, everything is built in layers from the very start. That means everything in Canva is fully editable. You can jump in and you can tweak any element. You can adjust the layout manually. You can collaborate with your team just like you would if you built it yourself from scratch. And that's amazing because you're never locked into that first result. You're always in control throughout the entire process. And we all know that most of our work is spread across different tools, whether that's Slack or Gmail, Google Drive, Notion, or any other ones. Connectors start bringing all of this into Canva AI. So now instead of manually pulling in content or copying and pasting, Canva can now access your conversations, your documents, your context, and use that to create. For example, you could ask Canva AI to look through your Slack conversations about an investor pitch and then ask Canva AI to turn that information into a fully branded presentation. So what used to take us hours of back and forth can now happen in minutes. And another big time saver is this one, personal favorite, web research. You can now ask Canva AI to research for you directly inside of Canva and then bring all of those insights straight into your design. So whether you're building a new proposal, planning something new, or exploring a growth opportunity, you can pull in trends, insights, or competitor info without ever leaving the editor. It's all right there where you work. Next up is scheduling, and this is about putting repetitive work on autopilot. Again, another favorite of mine. So if you're regularly creating things like presentations or social posts, you can now see Canva AI to take care of that for you. So an example of that would be if you're a fitness studio and you need to do weekly class updates on Instagram every Monday, you can now get Canva AI to automatically create those for you. So instead of starting from scratch each time, your content is already there, ready to go, ready to be edited when you need it or back online. Next up, brand intelligence. We all know that as your team grows, one of the hardest things to do is staying consistent across everything you create. With Canva AI, you can now apply your brand, your colors, fonts, and logos, so every design is on brand by default. So whether you're creating a company presentation or a social pro post or a print file flyer, sorry, everything looks and feels consistent no matter who you on your team is generating without the need to manually fix every time. And finally, code two point o. This opens up a completely new category of what you can create in Canva. You can now build entirely interactive experiences just by describing what you want. So whether it's a registration form for a business event, a quiz for team bonding, a pricing calculator for sales, or even a company website, Canva helps you to bring it to life without the need to write any code. And it's also just like everything else in Canva. It's fully editable with drag and drop. So we're not just creating designs anymore. We're creating experiences that people actually want to interact with. So that's Canva AI two point o at a very high level. Design, write, brand, build, all in one conversation right where you work. Now let's keep this going because there is so much more to show you all. We're gonna jump into some demos now to show you the big launches and how you can take advantage of them to grow your business. So let's start with design. Because at at its very core, Canva has always been about giving everyone the power to design. And with that with Canva AI two point o, that gets a whole lot more powerful. With Canva AI two point o, you can turn an idea into a design from a single prompt, then you can refine it with natural back and forth conversation. In this demo, we'll use, or I'll use these generation and refinement capabilities to quickly create and polish a social media post. So to get started, we just need to click on the new Canva AI icon in the top left hand corner of the editor. Now this opens the new chat, box. And here you can just describe what you need just like you would with a collaborator, one of your workmates, colleagues, friends, family, whoever. You can just talk to it with everyday language. There's no special syntax required. So to save time, I've actually, pulled together a prompt. I've got it ready, so we can focus on some of the other cool launches. And now the prompt really just steps out the details of what I wanna create, plus a bit of a look and feel, really trying to get what my brand is. It's really just a quick mental dump of the exact design we want to create. So push enter and get this going. And while we're waiting waiting, and it will take a second to generate, it might be worth looking at the prompt because we do get a lot of feedback about people who do struggle with prompting. So if you can zoom in on your screen a little bit, read closely, maybe squint, you'll see that this has the basic building blocks of a good, design prompt. It starts with a purpose, which is a social media post for a plant nursery, describes the layout, sets the the mood, and it gets really specific about the visuals, to a color palette, typography style, and even the illustration technique. The more of these details you include, whether it's with Canva AI or any other AI tool you you use, the closer your draft will get to what you are imagining. Cool. So we have this first draft now. It actually generated pretty quick, which is good. So let's get the party going and keep working with Canva AI to refine. So instead of jumping in to the editor and making changes myself, which I can do because it is a layered design, I've actually pulled together another prompt just to make a change, which would usually take a lot of time for me. And that is I wanna change the image, to be a cooler image, like, cooler color wise, like a blue, to make it feel more like my brand. And, you know, this is something I could do in Canva usually, but it'll take a long time. So I'm asking Canva AI to do that for me. And like I mentioned before, everything Canva AI generates is fully editable because it is a layered design just like anything else in Canva. So the design is a really good starting point, but then it gives you the ability to just step in, take over, and let your creativity shine. What the cool thing about this Aginta capability where you can make it ask it to do things for you is even if the AI tool does make some mistakes or, you know, you need to refine, it can kinda do that itself now. It can constantly looks at your, canvas, your editor, and sees things. Oh, here you go. Here's a good example of that. You've got a it's just generated a checkerboard background and I asked it to be transparent. And it's caught that, and it's actually going to remove that. And, again, this is kind of doing it all on its own, which is pretty amazing. This is something that usually would have taken me a long time to do. So now we've got a really good first draft that's in the colors that I want. It's got a cool, illustration that I want the brand, whatnot. But it would take me a long time to kind of go back and forth conversationally with Camber AI. So this is where the layered design generation really comes into its own. I can now just select different elements of the design and make changes myself manually. And so instead of asking Canva AI to expand the text and make it bigger, move it around, maybe move it down a little bit, I can do this myself just by clicking on it using the full power of the Canva visual suite, adjust, rearrange, everything. It's fantastic, and it really speaks to the creative, AI partnership that we have created with Canva AI. So you can move everything around and get it looking perfect. So now you've experienced the shift in how you can start designing. Instead of start starting with a blank page anymore, you can start with a real design and just spend your creative energy making it your own. And now to pass it over to the writing expert, Justin. Thanks, Greg. Next up, write because great designs aren't just visual. It's about the words too. With Canva AI two point o in docs, you can transform your words into polished visual stories. From meaning minutes to business proposals, it handles the heavy lifting so you can focus on the narrative, refine the details through conversation, and make your message linked exactly how you mean it. No more starting from blank page. So let's just take a look at what this could look like. So with Canva AI, you can start anywhere from the home page or a Canva doc. I'm gonna start from a Canva doc and open up Canva AI in the editor. I've already written a prompt, and my prompt's really about starting a new business and expanding my business. And I need to write a, clear and, persuasive project, proposal for a new burger shop. So including a product statement, proposal, and timeline, Canva AI takes the time, to think about what you want and get straight to work, gathering all the information it needs from the Internet or even from your own Canva designs. Once it has enough information, it starts writing all about what you want. It should start generating soon, and it should start adding context straight into the doc. Fantastic. So Canva AI started to add a bit of the executive summary, problem statement. And after some time, it'll develop a really clear proposal that's well structured, impactful with next steps and ideas on where to go. But this looks great, and I wanna take it to the next step. I need to get a really good idea about where I could open up my store. So I go back into the Canva AI once it's all finished generating. I go back into oh, yeah. We can have a quick look at it. Looking nice and clean. See, I go back into now Canva AI, and I want to open up my shop somewhere in the Western Sydney. I asked Canva AI if you can do the research on areas and recommend where I should open it up. So what you can see now is that Canva AI is doing the research on the Internet, pulling all the information it needs to help you get to a really good understanding. It looks through Internet and then starts giving you a bit of an idea, and use that information to generate a better idea of what it could do. So it suggests on where it could open up and what suburbs to avoid once it starts doing it. Great. Yeah. So this looks great, and it's giving me a really good recommendation of where I could open up my new burger shop. And I'm gonna add that into my proposal. I'm just gonna simply prompt for it to add it into my proposal, and it will restructure the doc based on where it's gonna be best suited in your proposal. So for me, I think it's gonna be really great to sit under the macro proposal and create a new section on marketing analysis. So it's gonna do that all for me, and I only have to just talk to it, like a true collaborator. Fantastic. That's now added into my proposal. And now the final step is to make it unmistakably yours. From here, we can ask Canva AI to bring some of your brand colors in or even add a banner for some visual flair. Sweet. I will now hand over to Tim for the brand and stuff. Awesome. Hey, everyone. I'm Tim, and I'm super excited to give you a sneak peek at brand intelligence. Because as Greg said, one of the biggest challenges for any creator, business, or even a team, staying consistent is a tough job. So what makes this different from generic AI generation is that it actually is brand intelligence, so it knows your brand. It does that by drawing on two things. First, your brand kit, things like your logo, colors, and fonts, and second, your brand templates. So these are the actual designs that your team has already approved and used. So think of it kind of like cooking a restaurant quality meal. Your banker is the pantry with all the right ingredients, but your brand template is your recipe. It tells the AI how those ingredients should come together and in what order and in what proportions. So that combination is what makes the output feel, on brand and not just on trend. So let's take a look at it in action. So say I'm putting together an investor pitch for my business, Shopify. I'll head straight to Canva AI right from the home page. Now instead of starting from a blank page, I want this to look like us. So I'll hit the plus button here. I'll go and search my brand template that I want, drop it straight into my prompt, and then I'll add in create an investor presentation for Shopify using this brand template as you can see. So Canva AI takes a second to read the prompt, checks your brand kit, and then it pulls together an outline for us to review. So this is the bit that I really like because I quite like to be able to sanity check the structure before a single slide is even, built. So this is looking pretty good. Alright. So let's hit generate. So this is where the magic happens. So you can see, that little Canva AI, icon on each of the slides. So that's it working through each, and every page, pulling together the ingredients from your brand kit. So, again, our colors, fonts, logos, and then following the recipe of our brand team plate to build the deck. So you got fonts, colors, layouts, imagery, all of it is on brand and automatically. Still working through a few of those slides as it's fine tuning it, making sure that it's on brand. And here's the best part. Once it's done, this isn't a flat export. So like Craig said, it's fully editable as a Canva design. So you can see here, I've just made a small adjustment there to flick it, flip that little logo up to the top. And then I can even go on here in a second. I noticed that one there. I'm just gonna go and change that headline, resize it a little bit, tweak, all done. And just like that, I've got an investor ready deck that is completely on brand without me having to engage a brand designer. And you know what? That's the confidence that Canva AI can give every team. Alright. Next up, let's make an existing design on brand. So here's a mocked up, job ad that I've pulled together for Instagram. So you can see it's pretty generic. It doesn't look like Shopify at all. I'll open up Canva AI, and I'll simply ask it to make this on brand. I will search for my brand kit through the same plus sign. This time, I will only select the brand kit. There's no template needed. So here's what's happening behind the scenes. So Canva AI is rebuilding that same design with our brand colors, the fonts, the styling. Then it's gonna go search through the brand kit and find a logo from, from in there, and then it's gonna find a spot to try and drop it in. Now if you can see what's happened here, our logo's red, and it's on a red background. So that's not ideal. Right? So it's a total clash. So that's alright. I'm gonna ask Canva AI to pick another background color from our brand kit, and we can hopefully be able to see it a little bit better. Give it a second. Searching through the brand kit, and there we go. Much better. But last thing, the logo is actually overlapping my headline. So, again, I'm just gonna jump in this time and, edit it myself like that. And, again, I can just grab it, shift it across, resize it, and it is done. So there you go. An on brand job ad ready to post on Insta and moments, that's brand intelligence. So now I'm gonna hand it back to Justin to take us through Connect. Thanks, Tim. This one is genuinely one of my favorite launches that we had at Canva Create, and it's all about breaking down the walls between Canva and the rest of your work life. We know that great work and great things happen when the information is right there where you needed to create. And connectors is all about bringing that into one workflow. Connectors in Canva AI two point o is a seamless way to bring your conversations, contacts, and workflow tools together. By linking your most used apps like Slack, Gmail, Google, Notion, and many more, your world stays connected with InReach, feeding directly into your workflow. Everything you need, exactly where you need it. So let's explore how this could work. Before diving in, I'm gonna show you how to connect some of your favorite sources. Simply navigate to the Canva AI button, press the little plus, and select connected apps. From there, you can choose your preferred app, whether it's Slack, Gmail, Calendar, or even Notion. Today, I'm gonna use Slack to design an internal club newsletter for my colleagues who are f one fanatics like myself. I'll prompt to create a visual, fun, and stylish newsletter for my team with the latest updates in chat f one. As it goes through, it will start to then start to skim through your Slack, pulling in all the key information, finding the right channels, and understanding exactly what context it should use. Canva will also identify, the best stock type and best design type for it to use. Here, it's using a printable letterhead to really design something that has impact. So as you can see, it's starting to pull all the information together, and starts to design something that's really, great. Great. That's connectors. Over to you, Claire. Awesome. Thank you, Justin. Hey, everyone. So now I'm very excited to show a new addition coming to our visual suite, Canva code two point o, because Canva has always been about making powerful things accessible to everyone. And now that extends to building and editing interactive experiences too. You no longer need to know how to code to build something that that feels like it was coded. Just describe what you want from habit trackers to games, landing pages, web apps, and more, and Canva builds it for you. You can then dive in and edit it in Canva's editor such as the color, text, or images or find it through conversation and publish it all without writing a single line of code. This opens up a completely new category of things you can create and share, things that don't just look great but also truly engage. So let's see it in action and bring an idea to life. So just imagine you're planning an event and you want to make the page with all the details, but you want it to be something people really engage with. So I'm just going to click first on code from the home page. So I'm just gonna type in my prompt now so you can go with anything from your imagination, apps, landing pages, games, experiences. It's totally up to you. So we're going to go with this one, an interactive site for community networking event. And I've included some extra details here for what I want including, some sections that I want and also the overall visual styling too. The more info you give it, the more Canva AI will actually help you out with the heavy lifting. You can then tweak and refine afterwards to what you want using the editor. So I'll just go ahead and press enter, and what it will do is actually start coding the lines of the interactive experience for you all within Canva. Awesome. So there we have it. So it's coded us, an entire interactive, networking event site here. We've got some details, some of our hosts. We've got, the full day here as well. And you're also able to build your day and click on different events to create your own schedule, which is super interactive and awesome to have. So if you also I'm just gonna show you. If we grab the edge of of the handles of the page and actually start resizing it, notice how everything adjusts automatically. So this is how, the page will respond across different screen sizes. So whether it's a mobile, an iPad, laptop, or anything in between, your experience page or app will automatically show up in the best way possible for your users. Not long ago, this is something that you would have had to code manually for every device, but now you can see it's as super simple as just dragging a handle, which is awesome. Great. So now let's also dive in and truly make it ours. If I wanted to change the overall layout, the visual style, or add a new section, I can just ask Camp AI in the same conversation. You can just chat to it the same way you would if you're asking a teammate to make edits. So you could just click on a specific section, say, for example, here, and it will show up in the prompt box ready for you to ask it to, to make a change. It's really that easy, and you can just kind of re prompt and it will do that. But what's really cool about the level up of Canva code is that you can actually jump in and directly edit the design just like you would any other Canva design. So here, the Canva AI conversation does most of the heavy lifting on the layout. But if you're wanting more specific changes, you can dive in and do that yourself to get exactly what you want. So I'm first just going to dive in here, and just make an edit. So let's change the header, to something like the connect summit. It's that easy as just retyping, and you can also increase, like, the font size, change the colors, and also change, the font as well. Next, I might change, something more specific. So maybe if I'm wanting to I can just click edit, click on this box, and let's say we want to change it to something more on brand. So I can change it to blue super easily, there as well, just like any other Canva design. Let's say I'm also now wanting to, change up the imagery a bit. So I can just click on elements here and click on photos, and let's say we type in networking event. And you can just simply drag and drop any image into a frame. It's truly that simple. Unique to Canva, this we have this huge library of photos and graphics to choose from to add to your interactive experiences. And it's just as simple as drag and drop. I'll also note here, this is where collaboration becomes really powerful as well because you can also add comments, so that when you share it with your team, you can all collaborate to make sure that, you're reaching your final, design that you want. And for the final step, that we've worked on the design, let's turn it now into a live website. So I'm just gonna click on the publish button here and see how it look live. So it will show up as a preview for both your phone, or your laptop and also give you different options for the URLs, and you can publish straight through there. You can also even purchase your own custom domain in Canva or you can publish securely with SSO for enterprise accounts. So as you can see, you can now easily build, publish, and manage your experience all in one place using the Canva workflow you're already familiar with. Plus, over the last decade, we've made it easy to import and edit any file in Canva. And recently, we expanded this to making any flat image fully editable with the launch of Magic Layers. Make sure you give that one a go if you haven't already. And now we're taking it even further with HTML and code import and editing. HTML is quickly becoming a popular format for AI generated tools and interactive experiences, but editing it often means regenerating everything from scratch. Now we're making it as easy as any other design. Just bring an HTML or code file into Canva and it becomes fully editable as an interactive code design. From there, you can edit it just as easily as I did demoed with the coded design. So that's it for me. I'll now pass back to EJ. Alright. Before we wrap up, a big thank you to our product experts for bringing those features to life. So to bring this all together, Canva AI two point o really changes how SMBs can work.
